National school of Drama which is the country’s premiere institute for theatre has got actor Paresh Rawal as its chairman . Prahlad Singh patel, the Union Minister of Culture tweeted,”Renowned artiste Paresh Rawal has been appointed as Chairman of National School of Drama by Rashtrapati Bhavan. I am glad that students and artists will be able to take advantage of his talent. I congratulate him.”
Rawal has stayed active in theatre even after becoming a prominent name in films. He has produced plays like Krishan vs Kanhaiyaa and the Gujarati play Dear Father have been performed before housefull audiences. The actor said about his new role as chairman, “I have performed at NSD’s festival of theatre, the Bharat Rang Mahotsav, and am looking forward to my new role as Chairperson.”
The actor was conferred with National Film Award for Best Supporting Actor in 1994 and was honoured with a Padma Shri in 2014. His notable work remains Hera Pheri and OMG-Oh My God with actor Akashy Kumar.
He started his career with the Gujarati movie Naseeb Ni Balihari. Later, he was seen in films like Bhagwaan Dada, Naam, Khatron Ke Khiladi, Ram Lakhan and Swarg. His other notable works include King Uncle, Damini, Sir, Woh Chokri, Andaz Apna Apna, Mohra, Chachi 420, Hera Pheri, Aankhen, Sanju and Uri: The Surgical Strike.
In 2014, he started his political career by winning 3.25 lakh votes in Ahmedabad ast seat as a BJP candidate.
