Soul, the animated film from Disney and Pixar is set to be released exclusively on Disney on December 25 on Christmas Day. The film will also be screened in theaters in international markets where the Disney+ is not available. The decision was taken amid the pandemic, when the theaters around the world have struggled to reopen.
The streaming service has more than 60.5 million subscribers and it is estimated that the service will be available in nine out of the top ten economies in the world, allowing for even more growth.
Bob Chapek, CEO of the Walt Disney Company said in a statement , “ A new original Pixar film is always a special occasion, and this truly heartwarming and humorous story about human connection and finding one’s place in the world will be a treat for families to enjoy together this holiday season. A new Soul brings together the talents of Jamie Foxx and Tina Fey to play the main characters Joe Gardner and 22, respectively. The film follows Joe as he ventures to a new realm called The Great Before where new souls get their personalities, quirks, and interests before going to Earth.”
