Reading is the most intimate kind of self-love one can offer to oneself. Reading fills the souls. Ever seen a person read on metro and wondered what’s going on that mind, to read a book in the 8 a.m. train. It is fascinating, isn’t? How one can immerse in a book when the world is a chaos.
That is the kind that fills the souls and stops the world. Words have power. That is why they transcend us to an infinite time and trap us in the between those lines. This article is about three books that impacted my soul.
This book is from a young girl during the war times, when she and her family were hiding from the Nazis. She writes about her exploration of first love and her life during the war. The book is just her diary entries which were later published by her father after her time on this earth. What a little girl dreams about when she was just thirteen! This diary that she named Kitty, is the best friend that she opens about. It a book that every young heart must read, to learn to find joy amidst adversities, to express one’s mind, to really find what it means to live.
I warn you, this book will open the flood gates in our eyes. It is nothing but realising the world through her that moves us. A great book to start appreciating this beautiful life of ours.
“How wonderful it is that nobody need wait a single moment before
starting to improve the world”- Anne Frank
Delicate yet tearing the hearts apart with the story of a twins, their life in a small village in India, the things they go through growing up. This book speaks of women, the society’s standards and its opinion on “love”. It unabashedly exposes the toxicity of castes, sexual assault, and pain to survive every day, which the world has delivered to everyone at least once in our lives. It is not new to us, only that when we read this book, we read it through the eyes of a small child. This book is very famous for that very thing.
Witty parallel stories wrapping us with the realities in their lives, told in the voice of little Ammu. The last chapter is titled „the cost of living‟ expresses the fight for the life, what we do for love. This how life is still, even in 2021; this is the reality of women and lives in many parts of the world. I suggest this book for an experience reader as it can really take a part of your soul with it and has details that can affect young hearts.
Nothing has went on to describe the extends of toxic relationship to me like this book did and what finding love can
do to our soul! It is all in our choices, to be free or to die there and Murakami went on to tell that one simple line in a very soul wrenching way in this book, back in 1980 itself. This book is way ahead of its time, with his parallel plot writing style and just enough sexual references to make anyone go in trance. But it’s a good read, for anyone wanting a book for a change, from the usual romantic style. This one is set to grip us in maniac.
It is thrilling- the way the books end. Until we reach the very last line we are gripped with anxiousness to know. If not anything, I assure you, this book will make you want to hear “Norwegian wood” by the Beatles and by reading Murakami, two things are sure to happen – mental damage and knowing all train stations in Tokyo. This book was made into a movie later and it is a must read for book enthusiasts; but if you are a beginner, please do not start with this,
as Murakami has a way of making us go mad with his writing.
“I once had a girl Or should I say she once had me She showed me her room Isn’t it good Norwegian wood?” The Beatles
I hope you give these books a try, sometime in your life. All of these three books with different storylines, but enthralling, to grip our soul. If you have read them, write to us, how it felt. Happy spring reading!
