Jo Jo Rabbit is a comedy film on Nazi propaganda during second world war. The film is written and directed by New Zealand filmmaker and actor Taika Waititi. It is based on Christian Leaunene’s 2008 Book named Caging Skies. The film also starred Roman Griffin Davis who is the titiles character Johannes,’ JoJo’, a hitler youth member and his mother’s role is played by Scarlett Johansson, the jewsih girl hiding in their attic is Thomasin McKenzie and the fanciful version of Adolf Hitler is played by Waitit himself portraying a comedic stand on the politics of the war. The film also casts Rebel Wilson, Stephen Merchant, Alfe Allen and Sma Rockwell.
The film had its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival where it won the top prize, The Grolsch people’s choice award. It was chosen by the National Board of Review and The American Film Institute as one of the ten best films of the year. The film received six oscar nominations including Best Picture, Best Supporting Actress for Johansson, winning the Best Adapted Screenplay. The Golden Globe Awards the film was nominated for Best Motion Picture-musical or comedy and Best Actor-Musical or comedy for Davis.
The story is based on the end of World War II and the ten year old Johannes’JoJo is overzealous about his patriotism . He is a partfo the nazi youth group but after being bullied becuase of his inability tomirder a rabbit , the young boy is names Jo Jo Rabbit. He has a loving mother and an imaginary friend version of Aollf Hitler who he calls from his first name. Later, he finds a Jewish girl ,Elsa hidden within the walls at home. He interrogates her to document the way of the jews which leads to more comedy .
The film very well deals with the impact of propaganda children can have and how impactful it is to the future of the country.
