The major film festivals have been cancelled amid the coronavirus pandemic and many took the online route. The Shanghai International Film Festival is scheduled to be held in-person beginning on July 25. The film festival is considered to be the longest -running major cinema event. The event will take place in mainland China.
The 2020 edition will take place in just over one week. It will take a condensed form and be mostly a chinese affair, staffers for the event told the Hollywood Reporter on thursday. The festival will continue as usual but without its international jury and the main competition, instead screening a shortened selection of gala films for the public and local industry. The schedule of the screening lineup will be released in the days coming.
The chinese immigration authorities continue to maintain a strict bar on the entry of the foreign travellers from most of the world. The lengthy quarantine requirements are in place for all returning chinese citizens. The festival organisers also said that the guests won’t be formally invited to the festival. But The staff from the international film companies stationed within China will be welcome to attend the festival.
This festival is considered to be the most prestigious international cinema event in China, and is always held in mid-June , but this year it was postponed due to the pandemic.
