The much awaited film Tenet , directed by Oscar winning Christopher Nolan has earned $58.1M in the international box office this weekend. The estimated worldwide total is $146.2M. While the figure of $78.3M includes previews and covers 46 markets on 52,913 screens.
Tenet has become the first major studio release of the pandemic era. Its international rollout was started last weekend in 40 offshore markets.
China has also launched The Eight Hundred which landed No. 2 behind local smash . It was in close range with Nolan’s Tenet in the market. His films tend to leg out and tenet leads the presales in China. Whereas Disney’s Mulan which is scheduled to be arriving the next friday in China will lead to a crowded market and into a National Day Celebration.
Mulan has started with a soft theatrical rollout where Disney is not a factor. The film is expected to gross an estimate of $5.9M from nine hubs including UAE, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand. The Mulan had the best opening weekend of 2020 in Singapore and Thailand.
While Tenet is leading the market in China with $30M , IN UK with $1.3M , in France with $10.7M, in Germany with $8.7M and Korea with $8.2M. The Tenet has taken $11.1M from 1,168 screens in 43 markets, 14.2% of the overall global weekend. Tenants have earned $5.3 M from 649 screens in China.
