Angelina’s step into philanthropy began in 2001 while shooting for ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’ in Cambodia. Maddox Jolie, Angelia’s first adopted son was from Cambodian. In order to connect him to his own country, she purchased a mansion in the northwestern province of Battambang. The house is on the edge of Samlout National park, a part of which Jolie converted into a wildlife reserve in order to protect the endangered species from the hands of poachers. The project named Maddox Jolie, and later converted to Maddox-Jolie Pitt created Asia’s first millennial village. The project housed over 6000 villagers, and some poacher-turned rangers in ten separate villages with schools, hospitals and a soy milk factory. In 2003, Jolie joined the Harnas Wildlife Foundation to rescue wildlife in the Kalahari Desert. With then-boyfriend Brad Pitt, she started the Shiloh Jolie-Pitt Foundation for wildlife conservation in Naankuse Wildlife Sanctuary.
She has also extended her hand in supporting education as a basic right for every citizen. Since 2007, she has headed the committee for supporting children education in war-torn areas. Jolie contributed over 20000 USD to the Malala Fund, established by Malala Yosuafzai.
