Widow directed by Steve MCQueen and written by the British helmer and Gilian Flynn. The 20th Century Fox tells the story of the four women who are stuck with the debt of their dead husbands who join forces to execute a heist. The film was also premiered at Toronto in September, 2018 and went on to earn $42.4 million in North America and $76 million globally, with its strongest territories being the U.K. ($8.3 million) and France ($2.95 million).
The other competitive chinese films have scheduled their release for this week amid the National Day Holiday and are waiting for a later time when those titles blow over. Even the chinese authorities have informally banned the foreghn films from their release during holiday as a protectionist measure.
Chinese local films like Sheep Without A Shepherd have earned $192 million leading to financial hits. Widow starring Viola Davis is not as popular a name among Chinese audiences than her co-star Liam Neeson.
